Touching the Truth Within

The Profound Art Works of Dr. Yuhua Shouzhi Wang

Artworks are meant to construct a sanctuary for the readers’ souls, allowing their minds to be cleansed, purified, and elevated. Regardless of the style of art, it should convey positive energy and the enjoyment of beauty. Dr. Yuhua Shouzhi Wang deepens the concept of surreal abstract art by integrating it with both form and spirit, striving for simplicity by eliminating complex colors and intricate brushstrokes to achieve a harmonious fusion of form and spirit, making it comfortable and soothing for people to look at. Such works, with simple yet spiritually profound strokes, can be referred to as “masterpieces”. What poetry and painting seek is not the objective depiction of the external world’s reality but rather the grasp of a certain quality that moves the heart, embodying the author’s spiritual perspective and genuine emotions.

Dr. Yuhua Shouzhi Wang’s paintings are characterized by divine, out-of-this-world artistic conception. They carry the likeness of both form and spirit, created with profound skills and a strong sense of scholarly essence. Her artistic skill is solid and formidable, transcending the mundane to attain the class of ease, the highest of the four classes of artistic mastery. Following the tradition of Chinese ink paintings as her foundation, Dr. Wang incorporates super-realistic skills, elevating her works to a distinguished style and purity rarely seen elsewhere.

In ink painting, the highest state of accomplishment is the Class of Ease, where the artist attains natural ease by using simple brushstrokes to fully capture the form. With the most succinct brushwork and the most superb technique, the artist depicts objective reality and attains a state of miraculousness where both form and spirit are fully captured. This kind of art leaves viewers never tired of appreciating, leaving a wonderful aftertaste that lingers long after the viewing experience.

High Perch and Herding Cattle stand out as masterpieces belonging to the genre of Ease.

The High Perch

Upon seeing this artwork, my heart was melted by its fresh and clear painting realm. The delightful chirping of birds seems to faintly echo in my ears. A pair of adorable little birds, as if just arrived from beyond the sky to the earthly realm, one of them gazing down at the land beneath its feet while the other curiously observing the distance. This traditional Chinese painting is extremely concise in brushwork, with a simple and distant meaning, yet it possesses an enchanting artistic appeal. With just a few strokes of light ink, the vivid and lively texture of the birds is vividly presented before the viewers, instantly taking me back to my distant childhood. The moist ink and exquisite lines everywhere convey the painter’s sincere brushwork and extraordinary true temperament. At the same time, it reflects the painter’s extraordinary and unsullied noble character, free from worldly attachments.

Herding cattle

This painting of herding cattle adopts a bold and expressive brushstroke style, prioritizing capturing the spirit over exact likeness. The depiction of the water buffalo involves bold and vigorous brushwork, conveying the robustness and fierceness of the animal. The herder on the back of the buffalo is sketched with simple strokes, portraying the carefree innocence of the shepherd. To prevent the composition from being monotonous, light green strokes are lightly applied to depict willow branches as the background, creating a sense of vitality, tranquility, and beauty. In the lower right corner of the painting, a calligraphy inscription with a strong classical flavor reveals the artist’s genuine and unadorned character.

The excellence of Dr. Yuhua Shouzhi Wang’s art does not lie in how the artist represents the form of nature, but in how she uses the form to express her mind, and how she brings out the spirit within the form. Her paintings express humanity’s wishes for peace and happiness; they express humanity’s praise to the qualities of freshness, transcendence, nobility and elegance; and they also express humanity’s gratitude to the selfless beneficence of flowers, trees and plants. These ink paintings are leading me into the refreshing and beautiful nature, allowing my restless soul to rest peacefully.

At the International Art Museum of America in downtown San Francisco, there is a special exhibition room, dedicated to Professor Yuhua Shouzhi Wang. This installation was established in 2018, containing a variety of water and ink paintings as wells as sketches.

At the International Art Museum of America in downtown San Francisco, there is a special exhibition room, dedicated to Professor Yuhua Shouzhi Wang. This installation was established in 2018, containing a variety of water and ink paintings as wells as sketches. Professor Wang’s acclaimed works have been displayed all over the world, including an exhibition at Congress in 2008, where they called her work a ‘treasure of the world’. In 2019, Professor Wang’s art was exhibited at Shanghai Exhibition Center in China and the Louvre Museum in Paris. Many people are aware that Professor Yuhua Shouzhi Wang is a world-renowned artist. However, the true identity of Professor Yuhua Shouzhi Wang is revealed as Fomu, Holy Mother the Great Mahasattva. She embodies great wisdom and compassion, noble morality, kindness, altruism, and selflessness in a perfect manner. She always considers other people’s well-being and is humble and very approachable. The compassion and kindness of Fomu, Holy Mother the Great Mahasattva, are pure and flawless. For example, in 2015, someone sneaked into the International Art Museum of America in San Francisco and tried to steal an artwork that had been acclaimed by the World Federation of UNESCO (WFUCA). This person was arrested by the police on site and subsequently detained. Since the artwork that he tried to steal was one of Fomu’s masterpieces, the court repeatedly requested Fomu to provide a valuation of the artwork, so that they could use her valuation to determinethe term for sentencing. When Fomu, Holy Mother the Great Mahasattva, knew about this person’s distress, She provided a statement saying that the artwork was rather ordinary and had no value. The court had no way of sentencing the person to any term and had to release him.

Another time, Fomu, Holy Mother the Great Mahasattva, saved a butterfly that had fallen into the water. Worried about the butterfly’s safety, Fomu brought it home and kept it for a few days to make sure the butterfly is well-recovered before letting it fly away. Fomu relentlessly led disciples to conduct life-releases. She went every week to woodlands to feed ducks and birds and never missed a week. She paid for it with Her own money and never accepted offerings from Buddhist disciples. Fomu, Holy Mother the Great Mahasattva, is well known for Her diligence and thriftiness. For many decades, the noble Fomu, Holy Mother the Great Mahasattva, always cooked Her own meals and washed Her own clothes. She never entrusted others to do Her chores. She would save the food that She could not finish eating and finish it the next day or two. She was never wasteful. Usually, Fomu, Holy Mother the Great Mahasattva, would even save the water that She did not finish drinking, the water used for washing vegetables or hands, or wastewater from the filter and use it for irrigating flowers or flushing toilet. Through Her deeds, the Great Fomu, Holy Mother the Great Mahasattva, was teaching us how to start with the small things, cherish our good fortune, and actualize our cultivation practices. It is impossible to recount all the numerous exemplary deeds of Fomu.

Wherever Fomu, Holy Mother the Great Mahasattva, went, dragon Dharma protectors were present, and holy miracles manifested. When Fomu performed initiation and transmitted Dharma, holy states were manifested. For example, at the Antelope Valley, Fomu’s hat turned into a black garuda. In New Jersey, the hair of Fomu, Holy Mother the Great Mahasattva, suddenly went up and wrapped around a tall building in Manhattan on the opposite shore. In San Francisco, a twin Buddha light suddenly appeared, centered around where Fomu stood. All cultivators are touched by the compassion and morality of Fomu, Holy Mother the Great Mahasattva.

Dr. Yuhua Shouzhi Wang’s Paintings and Achievements

Professor Yuhua Shouzhi Wang is a world-renowned painter. Throughout Asia, she is the only artist to whom the New York Academy of Art conferred the title of international preeminent artist of first class standing.

The art world has classified the quality of ink painting into four different levels: Class of Proficiency, Class of Wonderment, Class of Divinity, and Class of Ease. Artwork of the Class of Proficiency has the ability to present a resemblance of objective reality, achieving likeness in form. This is the first stage of artistic creation. The art world calls it the stage of sketching. This is a stage that an artist cannot skip, yet they also cannot remain at this status quo, because this is an elementary stage. The next level is the Class of Wonderment. Artworks of this Class demonstrates highly skilled techniques. The artist is able to paint anything at will without revealing any trace of effort. However, one also cannot remain stagnant at this stage.

The next level after the Class of Wonderment is the Class of Divinity where the art carries likeness of ‘form’ and likeness of ‘spirit.’ In ink painting, the highest state of accomplishment is the Class of Ease where the artist attains natural ease by using simple brushstrokes to fully capture the form. With the most succinct brushwork and the most superb technique, the artist depicts objective reality and attains a state of miraculousness where both form and spirit are fully captured. This is the kind of art that viewers never get tired of appreciating; it leaves a wonderful aftertaste. There are only about a dozen people in the history of art who have attained such a class.

In 2008, the United States Congress exhibited her sculptures and paintings in the Gold Room in the Rayburn Congressional Building which received rave reviews. Professor Stephen Farthing of the University of the Arts in London, United Kingdom, determined that “Professor Wang’s paintings reach across cultures to celebrate the space that exists intellectually and emotionally between representation and abstraction, between a fact and an idea…Dr. Wang’s paintings may draw heavily on the traditions of Eastern art, but they present themselves as extraordinarily Western ideas and images.”

in 2013, out of the works of all painters, the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations (WFUCA) awarded the title “WFUCA2013” to the artworks of Professor Yuhua Shouzhi Wang. In 2019, When Professor Wang’s solo exhibition was held at the Shanghai Exhibition Center that used to be the Sino-Soviet Friendship Building, a record-breaking number of people visited the show. Same year, she held a solo exhibition, titled One Flower, Two Worlds at the Louvre in Paris in 2019 and created a sensation in French art circles. This exhibition showcases 27 of Professor Wang’s extraordinary artworks each of which has reached the height of the Class of Ease.
